I’ve never gone looking for energy in something I basically didn’t feel like doing. I’ve always tried to find the courage to do what I really wanted to do. That way, energy has never been something I’ve had to look for — but something I’ve had to steer.
Like standing on the 10-metre board, looking down into the pool: the butterflies in your stomach come all on their own. Or as one of my coaching clients experienced it: she had a secret dream of moving to India — but no energy. The energy came when, in our conversation, she found the courage to buy a one-way ticket. She didn’t sleep for 2 days, out of sheer excitement.
I call this type of experience a turning point. It’s when the energy curve goes vertical. We’re buzzing with excitement. We can’t help smiling. We glow from within. Our eyes light up. We’re alive. Every piece of the puzzle falls into place. Decisions are easy to make, because everything seems clear and unambiguous. We know exactly what we want, and it seems as if luck keeps following us.
Trust me: if your puzzle isn’t coming together, there’s nothing wrong with the pieces. You’re just missing the courage to find your turning point. You have all the energy you need to reach the goal — right now, as you read this.
It’s like driving a car: if you hold down the accelerator and the brake at the same time, the engine burns out — no matter how big it is. Finding your turning point is like lifting your foot off the brake. So the only question is: what’s holding you back?
