Are you adaptable? Have you ever stood in front of a big change and thought: “But I don’t feel ready at all”? If so — welcome to the club!
Maybe you’re facing a promotion, a new job, a course of study or a big task, and you’re thinking: “The potential is huge, but what if it’s the wrong choice?”
Not every decision we make in life sits like a stone in our stomach. Some decisions can also feel like standing at the edge of the 10-metre board, not sure at all. You look 10 metres down to the water, and the 4 extra bonus metres down to the bottom of the pool. Your heart is pounding, because you’re not at all ready to die. Meanwhile, the queue behind you has grown too long to turn back, so now there’s only one way: jump into the unknown.
Carefully you lean forward, and feel your centre of gravity hit its “point of no return”. Then you think “shiiiiiiiiiiit” and jump. It’s the same with other decisions: sometimes it takes just saying “shiiiiiiiiiiit” and jumping.
If you can feel that you want to, don’t wait for the feeling of being 100% sure. You risk being ready too late.
Better to regret what you did than to be sorry you never took the leap.
If it goes wrong, you can always do it over. Everyone has made wrong decisions. You’ll never be blamed for a wrong decision. You’ll be blamed if you keep making the same wrong decisions because you’re afraid to change course.
You can always undo a decision — except when it comes to children. Luckily, nature has built in its own love guarantee here: you’ll love them — no matter who you have them with.
Enjoy the 10-metre board!
