This talk is about communication in the workplace. The main reason mistakes happen in teamwork is our communication. Good communication means you can pull together — poor communication breeds misunderstandings, so some keep pulling while others have already gone home.
The talk zooms in on four classic obstacles in your spoken communication:
Each obstacle is simple — but also hard to overcome. Martin draws on the experience of highly reliable teams: aircraft cockpits, operating theatres, aircraft carriers, nuclear power plants and submarines, where a slip in communication has fatal consequences. He translates that experience into your everyday work, so you leave with the insight and tools to make sure what’s meant also gets done.
Concrete tools to standardise your spoken
communication — so what’s meant doesn’t just get said, but also heard, understood and done.
When communication works, wellbeing
lifts straight away — there’s no better
feeling than succeeding together

We were in a change process that everyone could feel. There were frustrations among the staff, and we needed to see things in a new light.
Martin Erichsen put laughter in the context of change and showed us that it can pay off to start by laughing — instead of waiting until the task is done. That way, laughter worked as a release, so pent-up frustrations came out in a more open, open-minded dialogue. The energetic contribution of laughter was very constructive.
In his teaching, Martin comes across as a deeply serious communicator of the use of laughter. It works powerfully and adds to the understanding of how important laughter is in everyday life. For anyone who might consider laughing, I can definitely recommend Martin to help focus on the positive — and on laughing. It will make your process more constructive.
After two departments were merged into one, we needed to get to know each other better. Martin delivered a hugely refreshing and humorous session where everyone got to meet each other in a whole new way.
Thanks for a good laugh.
