After an informative department event, we’d hired Martin to "entertain" us for the last 2 hours of the day — to remind ourselves that, in a busy everyday, we should remember you get further with a smile, and that humour can be an important communication tool with both colleagues and clients.
And entertained — we were! Within 5 minutes Martin had everyone on their feet, and the worst sceptics got over their initial shock. Shortly after, we were all laughing up at the ceiling. But it got worse — the smiles grew wider and wider and the laughter louder and louder as we made our way through the two hours. In the days after, we’ve laughed a lot about what Martin got us to do — for some very boundary-pushing, for others quite easy. But we’re all left with an awareness that humour is many things, and that you shouldn’t be afraid to use it in the "good" way when things move a little too fast, when clients get a little too irritating or when projects tie themselves in knots. Humour and laughter can often help you see things from another angle, and communication flows more easily when you can laugh together.
